"The Bridge"
This colorful 12 x 16 acrylic painting by Anda Styler, “The Bridge,” was painted on location at Harrybrooke Park in New Milford when the artist hiked down to paint on the rocks at the river’s edge. The artist was inspired to capture the peaceful feeling of spring foliage against the inviting blue water. A resident of Sherman, CT, Anda began painting in acrylic when she was sixteen and says acrylic is still her favorite medium. She is especially drawn to the magic of the landscape of the Litchfield Hills and to hidden places that are often unseen. Using shadow, light, vibrant color, mood and sky, she is known for capturing the beauty of the Connecticut hills that she finds inspirational and unique. Melody Asbury painted this handsome 20 x 24 mixed media work, “Sealtest,” that depicts the chickens she keeps. The artist said she was attracted to the contrast of the warm colors against the bluish shadows on the white chicken. The title refers to the name on the crate on which the chicken perches. A portrait artist and courtroom sketch artist for much of her career, Melody now focuses on painting animals and pet portraits. “Animals are such an important part of our lives and we learn from them,” the artist says. She is a “signature member” of The Society of Animal Artists, an internationally prestigious group. Her work has won many awards and is in collections throughout the country and abroad.
