"King of Flanders" by Dorie Petrochko
10 ½” x 13” watercolor/gouache. The “King of Flanders” is a white turkey who resides at Flanders Nature Center. The artist chose to depict him in a regal pose, yet there is some underlying discontent in his personality (perhaps he already knows his fate!). She combined a free-form watercolor background with high detail and contrast in the feathers and wattle with watercolor and gouache. Dorie Petrochko is a wildlife and botanical artist, and a published nature illustrator, who has taught art for more than a decade. Before that her undergraduate and graduate training was in art, and her lifelong passions are traveling, birding, and painting wildlife, as she supports conservation organizations near and far.

"North Barn" by Vincent Giarrano
"North Barn" oil on linen painting (16" x 20") by Washington, CT artist Vincent Giarrano. Giarrano wrote specifically about this work: "I’ve painted at Flanders a few times and was definitely looking to explore settings around the barns. I was very interested in working with a figure too, something classic yet contemporary that would speak about people experiencing the beauty of this place. The model I chose to use is my daughter, Emily, who I’ve painted several times. It was also important for me to capture the lighting I like best in landscapes; cool, even light that creates a moody atmosphere I find pleasing."
Vincent Giarrano is a fine art painter living in Washington Connecticut. He’s an emerging artist that, in a very short time, has captured the eye of collectors and galleries across the country. Vincent’s work has also been featured recently in American Art Collector Magazine. Currently he is represented by Susan Powell Fine Art in Connecticut, Grenning Gallery in New York and Waterhouse Gallery in California. Vincent received his BFA from The State University of New York at Buffalo and his MFA from Syracuse University. More of Vincent’s work can be seen at www.giarrano.com
